Description
The bases of a pair of former chimney stacks at Abbey Mills, located to the north-west and south-east of the pumping station, date back to 1865 and were designed by Bazalgette. They are constructed from yellow stock brick with stone and red brick dressings. Each base features elaborate pedimented porches supported by squat engaged columns with foliated capitals. The central entrances are round arched, although the southern entrance has a damaged head. The bases rest on battered brick plinths, which are topped by the remains of stone octagonal stacks that have since been demolished. These structures are included for their group value with the main pumping station.
