Description

The Garden Bridge at Ingress Park is a Grade II listed structure made primarily of un-faced flints and a mix of red and yellow bricks of two sizes, all bonded with hard lime mortar. The bridge features two arches; the larger eastern arch has a segmental shape made of alternating headers and stretchers, measuring 2.85 metres wide, while the smaller western arch is round-headed and 1.04 metres wide, constructed with a double row of headers. Internally, both arches have flint walls and barrel-vaulted brick roofs. The quoins of the internal piers are built with blocks of three or four brick courses, integrating the flint work. The north side of the bridge was fully exposed during the survey, showing the flint work curving northwards at the ends. The eastern side meets the bank of the sunken path, while the western side is truncated. The south side was not completely visible at the time of inspection, but enough was seen to confirm that it is still standing.
