Description
The brick lined tunnel at Ingress Abbey is a garden tunnel dating from the early to mid 19th century, with alterations made in the 1940s. It is constructed of stock brick in a garden wall bond and features a round-headed arch. The tunnel measures approximately 75 to 100 feet in length and is one of several garden features located within the grounds of Ingress Abbey. It passes through a large chalk outcrop, offering views over the garden. During the Second World War, the tunnel was sealed with brickwork at both ends to serve as an air raid shelter.
