Description
Lodge Hall is a farmhouse dated 1687, constructed from limewashed rubble with painted stone dressings and a stone slate roof. It has a T-shaped plan and stands three storeys high with four bays, where the right-hand two bays project slightly. The entrance, located left of centre, features a moulded surround with flanking halberds and a decorated lintel with billet moulding. Above the entrance is a datestone inscribed with "CW" for Christopher Weatherhead, flanked by a corbelled round hood and a slate hood.
The ground floor and first floor have cross windows with hoodmoulds, while the second floor features a stepped three-light chamfered mullioned window with a stepped hoodmould above the entrance. The far left-hand side has vesica-shaped windows on the first and second floors, also with hoodmoulds. The projecting right-hand bays each have two-light mullioned and transomed windows that turn the corner, with the mullion acting as a support. The right-hand side also has a three-light ovolo mullioned and transomed window on both the ground and first floors, all with hoodmoulds. A chamfered single light is present on the second floor. All windows are fitted with leaded casements and fixed lights featuring diamond-shaped quarries.
The right-hand gable end has a ridge stack on corbels, while the left-hand gable end had a similar stack that has since collapsed and been rebuilt flush with the gable wall. There is evidence of an earlier extension to the south, possibly linked to a previous house on the site. Inside, the farmhouse includes a segmental arched kitchen fireplace with a chamfered surround and a decorated arch leading to the parlour fireplace.
