Description
Glendower House is a house dating from the early 17th century. It is constructed of squared rubble stone, with stone dressings and a stone slate roof. The house has two storeys and three bays. The garden front features double-chamfered windows with cavetto mullions on square stools. The ground floor windows on the left have four lights, and those on the right have six lights, incorporating a king mullion; both are topped with hood moulds. The upper floor's left-hand window is double-chamfered with three lights and cavetto mullions on square stools. To the right were two similar two-light windows, but the mullion has been removed from the right-hand window. All windows now contain 20th-century casements and fixed lights. A ridge stack is located on the left gable end, with further ashlar ridge stacks to the left of the centre and to the right, at the former gable, now a junction with Glendower Cottage. The entrance in the left gable is approached via a late 18th or early 19th-century porch with a plain surround and a cornice featuring a cymarecta moulding over the lintel. Above the porch is a one-light window with a chamfered surround and semi-circular head. The road front includes a double-chamfered window with a cavetto mullion on a square stool on the ground floor; two similar windows are on the upper floor, though the left-hand window has been altered, and its mullion is missing. An early 20th-century outshut with a catslide roof is located to the right, and is now used as a garage.
