Description
This guide post, located at SE 0010 6293, is a Grade II listed structure from the early to mid-19th century. Made of gritstone, it has a triangular shape and stands approximately 60 centimetres high. The left face features square-cut incised lettering that reads "LINTON / SKIPTON," accompanied by a black-painted arrow. The right face displays the words "KILNSEY / THRESHFIELD," also with an arrow. This guide post is one of several in the area, installed when roads were improved to accommodate the increased transport of lead from Grassington Moor and to facilitate the movement of cattle to the growing Skipton cattle market. The turnpike road along the southwest bank of the River Wharfe was established in the late 18th century, connecting Addingham with the Askrigg turnpike.
