Description

Mearbeck House is a house dating from 1836. It is constructed of watershot masonry with stone dressings and has a Welsh slate roof. The house is arranged around a central staircase plan and comprises two storeys and three bays. The central entrance is distinguished by engaged Tuscan columns supporting an open pediment; a circa-1980 six-panel door is set beneath a round-headed fanlight with Gothic Revival tracery. The ground floor has two windows, and the upper floor has three, each with plain surrounds, milled stone sills, and sash windows without glazing bars. The house features chamfered quoins and an eaves cornice, with gable coping and gable end ridge stacks. A rear entrance has a chamfered surround and a four-centred head. A late 19th-century wing has a chamfered surround with a basket arched head for its entrance. Inside, a dog-leg staircase has an open string, stick balustrades, and a wreathed handrail.
