Description

Badger Dub Cottage is a small farmhouse or cottage, likely built in the late 17th century or early 18th century, which has been extended and altered over time. It is constructed from roughly coursed sandstone rubble with quoins, and the front is white-washed. The building has a slate roof and features a single-depth plan oriented east-west, with the eastern unit likely being an addition, along with a lean-to extension at the western end.

The cottage is two storeys high and has three windows. In the center, there is a low porch with a shallow mono-pitched roof and side benches, which protects a square-headed inner doorway. Above the right side of the porch, there is a quoined vertical joint that marks the boundary of the western section. Each floor has two 20th-century cross-window casements set in rectangular openings, and the upper floor also includes a small two-light casement under the eaves on the left side. There is a corbelled chimney on the left and a gable chimney on the right. The almost full-height lean-to on the left has a wide doorway with a rectangular lintel and a stone slate drip-band.

The interior has been altered. Historically, it was probably originally a one-unit house, similar to West Stonehouse and Blands Farmhouse, both located in Dent. Badger Dub Cottage forms a group with Badger Dub.
