Description
Lindsey Fold Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse that has been enlarged and altered over time. It is constructed of random rubble with quoins, and the front and west gable are painted white, topped with a slate roof. The building has an L-shaped plan consisting of a two-unit section plus a one-unit addition, along with a 19th-century outshut in the rear angle.
The exterior features two storeys with a two-to-one window arrangement. The original two-unit range has a plinth and a central doorway with a part-glazed door, which is protected by a shallow 20th-century porch, the second replacement of a former tall gabled porch, the outline of which is still visible above. There are two sashed windows on each floor, all with renewed surrounds, and a chamfered one-light fire-window to the left at ground floor, along with the outline of a blocked similar window above. A corbelled chimney is located at the left gable, while a ridge chimney is positioned at the former gable to the right. The addition to the right includes a doorway at ground floor and a window with an internal wooden shutter above.
At the rear, the outshut to the second bay features a chamfered two-light mullioned stair window, which is now lacking its mullion, and its side wall has a small chamfered one-light window. A larger 19th-century outshut with a 20th-century catslide roof fills the rear angle alongside the original outshut.
Inside, the housepart to the left now has a 19th-century wooden partition forming an entrance passage. It contains two lateral beams, one of which was formerly a smokehood bressumer and retains the side bearers. There is also a carved spice cupboard with raised lettering that reads "N: 1703." The outshut includes a doglegged stone staircase and a pantry with stone shelves.
