Description
Stonycroft is a house located on Thorpe Main Street, dating from the early to mid 19th century. It is constructed from coursed squared grey gritstone and rubble, topped with a graduated stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and features a symmetrical layout with two bays on each side. The gabled front includes a central 20th-century porch with a glazed door, flanked by sash windows with glazing bars set in slightly projecting plain stone surrounds. There is also a small four-pane window at the apex of the gable. The design includes inturned kneelers and projecting gable coping, along with a large four-flue chimney stack at the rear gable. Stonycroft is notable for its architectural detail, particularly in the gable, and is one of several buildings in the village that showcase such features, although it is the only smaller domestic building and likely of a later date. It is included for its group value with other nearby structures.
