Description
The stables, built in the 18th century, are located to the north of the Old Rectory and form the west side of the entrance passage. They are constructed from coursed rubble with a plinth and quoins, topped with a graduated slate roof featuring stone copings and kneelers. The building has two storeys, with steps leading up to a loft door at the south end of the west elevation, and a ground-level door to the right of the steps. Both doors have chamfered stone surrounds and segmental heads. The north elevation features a large opening with double doors and dovecote openings in the gable. The east wall of the passage is made of two sections of cobbles bonded with slatestone. At either end of the passage, the gate piers are monolithic uprights with chamfered plinth blocks, moulded imposts, and ball finials. The outer gates are made of wrought iron and are dated 1895 on the lock plates.
