Description

Mossgill House and the attached barn are a house and barn combination dating back to the 18th century. The barn features two beams at the rear that are dated 1747, and the premises were licensed for religious use in 1751. The house has an incised stucco front with a plinth and chamfered quoins. It has a graduated slate roof with stone copings, kneelers, moulded eaves, and brick end chimneys. The building is two storeys high and has five symmetrical bays. The central entrance features a panelled door with a rectangular fanlight above, all framed by a stone surround with a cornice. There are two sash windows with glazing bars on either side of the door and five sash windows with glazing bars on the first floor, all with stone surrounds. Inside, there are reeded doorcases with panelled doors throughout, and the oak staircase has turned balusters and a tall multi-paned stair window. The barn is constructed of coursed rubble and has a graduated slate roof, with two open bays at the rear that showcase the initialled and dated beams.
