Description
The bank barn, located approximately 100 meters to the north-west of Catholes Farmhouse, is likely from the early to mid 18th century. It is constructed of large mixed random rubble with quoins and some through-stones, topped with a stone slate roof. The barn has a rectangular five-bay layout oriented east-west, featuring a shippon at the west end and an outshut on the north side at the east end.
On the south side, there is a wagon doorway in the fourth bay, which has an old wooden lintel and a long stone-slate drip-course above it, along with a slit breather to the right. The west gable wall includes a shippon doorway with a monolith lintel. The north side mirrors the south with a wagon doorway and an outshut to the left, which has a doorway on its side and a corrugated-iron roof.
Inside, the barn features four collar trusses that support two pairs of original purlins and original rafters. This barn forms a group with the former barn located approximately 20 meters north-west of Catholes Farmhouse and with Catholes Farmhouse itself.
