Description
Dandrymire Viaduct is a railway viaduct that carries the Settle to Carlisle railway line over Dandry Mire. It was built between 1869 and 1875 for the Midland Railway Company, with the company architect being JH Sanders and the chief engineer JS Crossley, while the resident engineer was J Underwood. The viaduct is constructed of coursed sandstone and is approximately 200 meters long, running in a north-south direction with a slight curve. It features twelve segmental arches arranged in three groups of four, which spring from rectangular piers. There are broader pilastered piers located between the groups and at each end of the viaduct. It forms a group with a railway bridge located approximately 200 meters to the north.
