Garsdale Signal Box

Garsdale Signal Box is a railway signal box built in 1910 for the Midland Railway. It is constructed of timber and features a Welsh slate roof.

The exterior consists of three bays and two storeys, topped with a shallow-pitched hipped roof adorned with turned-timber spike-finials. The first floor operating room has continuous glazing on the southeast side, which faces the tracks, and on both ends, while the rear wall is blind. Access to the signal box is through a doorway located in the southwest gable end, reached by an external flight of timber steps that rise from the station platform. These steps also provide access to a small modern extension with a gabled roof that contains a staff toilet. The signal box has modern replacement windows that replicate the original glazing pattern.

Inside, the signal box has been refurbished with a modern suspended ceiling but retains a Midland Railways lever frame with 33 levers. This lever frame has its interlocking mechanisms located within the operating room rather than in a lower room. The locking frame is positioned along the rear wall of the box, which may be its original location, as the Midland Railway began constructing boxes with rear frames from 1908, although it could also be a result of refurbishment.
