Description

Abbey Cottage is a house that dates from the 16th century and 19th century, constructed from ashlar with a stone slate roof. It is two stories high and features two first-floor windows on the east side with a gable entry. The building has projecting quoins. On the ground floor, there are three semi-circular-headed sash windows with glazing bars, which include radial glazing bars in their surrounds, complete with keystones and an impost band. The first floor has two sash windows with glazing bars in plain surrounds, which flank a sculptured panel. This panel displays the letters "IHC" beneath a coronet, surrounded by an interlace border, with an eagle to the left and the letter "A" to the right. Above the panel, there is a lamb and flag motif, and below it, three shields and a laughing head. The cottage features shaped kneelers, ashlar copings, and an end stack on the right. The rear wall has 16th-century mullioned windows, and the right return includes an end entry along with more reused sculpture and inscriptions.
