Description

Manor Farmhouse, dated 1633, features brick and flint construction with the brickwork laid in English bond and has undergone 20th-century alterations. The farmhouse has pantiled roofs and a main range that runs north-south, with a cross wing at the north end. The main range is two storeys high, constructed of flint with brick chequerwork decoration. The ground floor has four 20th-century casement windows, while the first floor has four horned 20th-century sash windows, all set under rendered segmental arches. There is a 20th-century door to the right and a gabled 20th-century porch to the left. The roof is gabled, with the south gable head stepped. The two-storey cross wing to the left is also gabled and flush with the main elevation, featuring continued brick chequerwork and individual quoining that marks the division between the two wings. Each floor of the cross wing has one 20th-century sash window under rendered segmental arches, with the upper arch having a skewback character. Above this window is a datestone reading "1633." The rear of the cross wing extends east of the main elevation and is straight gabled. The rear of the main range is dominated by two large stepped external stacks, with the northern stack having a rebuilt flue, and there are single-storey outshuts between the stacks. The fenestration is 20th-century. Attached to the house is a walled garden that encloses a rough rectangle to the south and east, featuring much-repaired English bond brickwork, flat brick coping, and occasional leaning buttresses.
