Description

This house, originally one building but later divided into four dwellings, was unified in the early 20th century and subsequently divided into two in the 1970s. It comprises two distinct builds: Staithe House, dating to circa 1740, is located to the south, and Martinstaithe, dating to the late 18th century, stands to the north. The construction is brick, with pantiled roofs. The building follows a double-pile plan.

The southern section, Staithe House, is two storeys high and arranged in three bays. A central plank door is situated behind a gabled, 20th-century trellis porch. There are two 19th-century sash windows on the ground floor, and to the right of the porch, a renewed top-hung casement window. Skewback arches are present over the sash windows. A platband runs at the first floor level. A late 18th-century casement window is located on the first floor, along with two early 20th-century casements. A modillion timber eaves cornice is also visible, along with pilaster strips at the corners. The roof is gabled, with internal end stacks.

The northern section, Martinstaithe, is also two storeys high and in three bays. Each bay is separated by rusticated pilasters. The sash windows contain glazing bars and are topped with gauged skewback arches. The first-floor windows are accentuated by keystones. This section also has a gabled roof with internal gable end stacks. Both building sections have lean-to outshuts against each gable. An entry to the north section is accessed via a door in the east outshut.
