Description

Hill Farmhouse is an 18th-century farmhouse with an earlier core, located on Yarmouth Road in Gillingham. The building is constructed of colourwashed brick and features a roof made of smut and black glazed pantiles. It has two storeys and attics, with a 1.5-storey wing at the rear, creating an L-shaped plan. The south facade is asymmetrical, highlighted by an off-centre gabled stair turret opposite a large axial red brick chimney stack.

The windows are sash style with glazing bars and architraves, arranged in a pattern of 2:1:2:1. On the ground floor, there are two tripartite sashes to the east of the stair turret, with a doorway situated between the window openings. Above the door, there is a blind first-floor window opening. A plain brick pilaster to the east of the doorway divides the end bay and indicates a change in construction. The eaves feature a sawtooth brick course, and the gables are parapeted, with an internal chimney stack at the east end.

The attic includes two gabled dormers fitted with 20th-century casements, as well as a 2-light casement in the east gable. The lower wing at the north-east corner is rendered and colourwashed, possibly covering a timber frame, and has two 3-light casements. The north gable features a 3-light first-floor casement with glazing bars and a 3-light ground-floor slatted vent. There is a catslide roof on the east side with a gabled attic dormer. Additionally, the north side of the main range has a two-storey gabled projection that corresponds to the stair turret on the south, with sashes that have glazing bars and two blocked first-floor openings.
