Description

Mill View is an early 20th-century bungalow located by the water.

The building is made of pine, with a roof covered in metal sheets. It is a single storey and four bays wide, facing east over a garden towards the River Thurne. The exterior walls are clad in horizontal weatherboarding, with cedar shingles added on the north, west, and south sides. The roof is pitched, featuring finials at the apex on both the north and south ends, along with plain barge boards.

The main (east) elevation includes a verandah beneath a continuous roof, supported by tapering, chamfered posts with Art Nouveau-style ogee shoulders. The balustrade features wide, flat balusters with simple piercings, flanked by smaller stick balusters. Inside the verandah, the wall consists of wide horizontal boards with a decorative pine frame, while the lower parts are weatherboarded.

The west elevation, which faces the footpath, is also weatherboarded and has additional cedar shingles. All the windows are uPVC, and there is an entrance on the right-hand side (south end).

Inside, the bungalow retains a high degree of original features, including joinery details around window and door frames, four-panelled doors, and matchboard panelling on the walls and ceilings. The windows overlooking the verandah are original, complete with their metal latches and fittings; they are casement windows with paired transom lights. The ceiling in the main living area is framed with simple battens. However, the fittings in the bathroom and kitchen have been replaced and are of lesser interest.
