Description

Hazlewood is a house built of red brick and flint, featuring plain tiled and pantiled roofs. It is a single pile house dated 1766, with an extension to the west added in 1780. The building has two storeys and attics, with a two-storey axial extension on the western side.

The south facade is double gabled and has five windows, along with a central part-glazed door that is raised and fielded, framed by a timber doorcase with fluted pilasters and a projecting cornice. The facade includes a brick and flint plinth, shallow clasping buttresses, and shallow buttresses at the eaves level flanking the entrance. A platband runs along the first floor level. The windows are two-light transomed casements with flat gauged brick arches. The gables are curved, featuring moulded brick kneelers and stone acorn finials. Each gable has tie irons and date stones.

The west elevation is made of knapped flint with brick dressings, showcasing clasping and central buttress pilasters. It has three windows, with a blank space in the centre at the first floor. The windows here are also transomed two-light casements with segmental brick arches. A single-storey wing features one four-light 20th-century window and a parapet gable. Each of the two-and-a-half storey wings has an off-centre axial stack. The date stones on the building are inscribed R.I. 1766 and C.I. 1780.
