Description
Berryfield is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, built in 1820, with a minor extension added in the 20th century. The walls are made of malmstone ashlar with galletting, featuring brick quoins and cambered openings. The roof is hipped and covered with slate, and there is a pediment or gable at the projecting center, which includes a panel dated 1820.
The southwest front of the house is symmetrical, consisting of two storeys and three windows arranged as 1.1.1. The windows are 20th-century casements. There is a French door set within an open arched porch. On each side, there are single-storeyed set-back wings; the rear of the house has two hips and includes two glazed projections, one serving as a porch and the other as a bay. Above the entrance, there is a bronze plaque that reads: "Here lived Edward Thomas, poet, born 1878 died 1917."
