Description
Sussex House is a house, with a section dating to the 18th century. The south portion was originally the shop on the north corner of West Street. It is stuccoed, with a modillion eaves cornice and a tiled roof. The original glazing bars remain on the first floor. On the ground floor, fluted pilasters are flanked by modern plate glass shop windows. The building is two storeys high and has three windows across the front.
The north end of the building was originally a separate structure, dating to the 16th century. It is timber-framed with plaster infilling and diagonal braces. A stone plinth is cemented. The first floor oversails on a moulded bressumer and has a tiled roof. A four-light shallow bay window, supported on corbels, projects from the first floor. A modern bay window is present on the ground floor. This section is two storeys high and has one window.
