Description

The Old Farmhouse in Dunhill is a house that dates from the late 16th century, with modifications made around 1820 and in the mid-19th century. It features part timber framing with later cladding, and the walls are constructed of brick in Flemish bond and some Flemish Garden Wall bond, with blue headers and some Dutch flat arches. The building has a high plinth in parts, stone hoodmoulds, and cills, and the exposed frame in one rear gable includes herringbone brick infill. The roof is tiled, hipped, and has a half-hipped section, along with one gablet.

The house has a timber-framed structure with a cross wing at the west end, a taller extension on the east side, and a lower extension at the rear. The south front has two storeys of varying heights and features two windows. The windows are sashes with Gothic lights. The entrance is highlighted by a Doric doorcase with fluted three-quarter columns, a modillion cornice, an open pediment, and an arched opening with a Gothic fanlight. Inside, there are panelled reveals and a six-panelled door. The building has a central shafted stack in the old block and a tapered stack attached at the east end. The rear of the building is irregular, displaying the exposed frame in the west wing, with other walls made of brick in Monk and Flemish Garden Wall bonds, along with sliding and ordinary sashes, minor outshots, and boarded doors.
