Description
Down View is a house that was recently converted from three cottages. It dates from the 17th century and was refronted in the 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. The building has a timber frame that is either infilled or encased in brick, with weatherboarded wings at the rear and an old plain tile roof.
The house has a three-bay 17th-century structure with three small wings added to the rear when it was used as three cottages. There is a doorway to the right of the center featuring a baffle entry, with a 20th-century double door set in an open gabled porch. To the right of the door, there is a 19th-century tripartite sash window with a rubbed brick head, and a similar sash window above it. To the left, there is a 19th-century wide flush framed 20-pane sash window with a ribbed brick arch, along with a similar sash window above and at the left end, an 18th-century small 16-pane sash window with a ribbed brick head and a similar sash above.
Above the door and below the eaves, there is a small blank opening, and a first-floor string runs along the facade. The roof is hipped, featuring a large three-flued stack above the door and an external projecting gable stack to the left. The building was probably originally the vicarage.
