Description
Benhams Farm is a house that dates from the 16th century, with additions from the 17th century, late 18th century, late 19th century, and 20th century. The north gable and the upper part of the front feature exposed timber framing with brick infilling, while the lower part is rendered with cement and roughcast. The next section is constructed of ironstone with brick quoins and cambered arches, and there is a single-storey extension made of brickwork. The original part on the north side has a steep tiled roof that is hipped at the south end and features a gablet. The other two sections have slate roofs of different pitches. The late medieval two-bay timber framed hall includes a fireplace, and a first floor was added later, along with an 18th-century extension and a further 19th-century extension. The front (east) side has a total of 1.2.2 storeys and 1.1.2 windows, with casements and a 20th-century gabled brick porch.
Inside, the massive fireplace was added to the outside of the frame, which was then extended to create the north gable. At the rear, there is a small 20th-century flat-roofed service block made of ironstone with brick dressings.
