Description

The retaining walls to the pools on either side of the pumping house at Home Farm date from the mid-19th century. The east pool features lower courses made of red brick with grey headers in English bond, which are battered. The upper courses consist of nodular flint with ashlar coping and Pulborough stone piers. The west pool has lower courses of Pulborough stone and upper courses of Purbeck stone, also with ashlar coping. There is a bridge at the north corner constructed with Pulborough stone voussoirs and red brick spandrels, but it has no parapet and is very overgrown. The Home Farmhouse, farm buildings, pumping house, and bridge together with the retaining walls form a cohesive group.
