Description
Bishops Down Farmhouse is a house that dates from the 17th century and early 19th century, with some 20th-century features. The walls are made of brick in both English and Flemish Garden Wall bond, while the west wall is constructed of stone and flint, with a plinth and a first-floor band in part. The roof is tiled and partly half-hipped. The entrance features a timber-framed lobby, with an L-shaped early 19th-century block added at the northeast corner.
The south elevation has two storeys with two windows in the older section, while the later section is set back and also has two storeys with two windows. The windows are casements, and there is a large late 20th-century bow window on the ground floor of the old part. There are two plain doorways with tiled hoods. The frame is exposed on the east wall, and the west wall is notably made of stone, which extends partially to the front below the plinth level. Inside, there is a massive fireplace block, and the lobby features an inner doorframe from the late 16th century. The staircase, which is from the early 19th century, is located in the later part of the house.
