Description

Stakes Farmhouse is a house of 17th-century origin, significantly altered in the 18th century and renovated in the late 19th century, with a minor 20th-century extension to the rear. The front wall is stuccoed, with a plinth and a moulded eaves band. The other walls are of brickwork, using both Flemish bond with blue headers, and Flemish Garden Wall bond, topped with brick dentil eaves. The roof is tiled, with a hipped form at the rear, covering a narrow staircase wing.

The symmetrical south front has two storeys and three windows, featuring Victorian sash windows set in reveals. The doorway has a plain recessed arch, a Gothic fanlight, and a six-panelled door, with added fluted pilasters supporting a bell-shaped pediment containing an oval frame linked by curved side pieces. The irregular rear elevation exhibits casement windows dating to the early 19th century and the 20th century. Inside, the original staircase is located within the projecting wing.
