Description
Preston House and Sydney House are a pair of houses, now functioning as a shop and tea-room, dating from the late 18th century. The buildings feature mathematically-tiled facades with wooden block quoins and a cornice decorated with modillions, all beneath a slate hipped low-pitched roof that has end brick stacks. On the left side, there is one flat-headed dormer. The structure rises three storeys with an attic and a basement, presenting a regular front of four windows. The inner pair of windows are sash style, while the outer windows are tripartite sashes set in wide segmental bows. The central entrance consists of paired panelled doors topped by transom lights, set within a double entrance that has panelled reveals and is adorned with a wide segmental pediment featuring fan decoration on brackets above.
