Description
The Church of St John the Evangelist is a parish church built in 1870 by Ewan Christian. It features coarse flint walls with Bath stone dressings, including a plinth, horizontal bands, and cusped lancets arranged in groups of two and three, some of which have plate tracery with quatrefoils. At the west end, there is a massive stepped buttress that supports the bell turret. The church has a tiled roof and dated cast-iron rainwater hoppers. An octagonal stone turret with a spirelet is located at the west end. Designed in the Early English style, the church includes a chancel with a north vestry, a nave with a shorter north aisle of three bays, and a south porch. Inside, the Victorian interior features veined marble circular columns with moulded square heads and circular moulded bases. The font is circular and rests on an octagonal moulded base.
