War Memorial, 40 Metres North Of St Peters Church

The war memorial located 40 metres north of St Peter's Church in Froxfield was unveiled in 1921 and is made of stone. It features a tall, tapering shaft with a moulded projecting cap, topped by a crosshead with trefoil ends. The shaft stands on a plinth, which is elevated by a base of four steps. Four bronze plaques are attached to the plinth, inscribed with messages honoring the men of Froxfield who lost their lives in the two world wars, as well as the names of those who died in each conflict. The bronze plaques commemorating the Second World War were added in 1951. The design of the cross is inspired by the medieval market cross at Corfe Castle in Dorset. This memorial holds significant historical and cultural value, both locally and nationally, and is constructed from high-quality materials. It also has group value with several nearby listed buildings, including the church and its lychgate.
