Description

No. 1, Friar’s Walk is an early 19th-century house, which was once a public house. The house is constructed of grey brick with red brick quoins, bands, and dressings. The ground floor is plastered on the left side and painted on the right. Platbands run over the ground and first floors and a flat wooden eaves soffit is supported by paired brackets, under a slate roof with stacks located to the right and left. The house is three storeys high and has a wide, regular two-window front. This front features glazing bar sashes in red brick surrounds with gauged brick heads; the windows on the second floor are shallower than those below. A wide window with glazing bars is on the ground floor to the left, set over a recessed panel and contained within a pilastered surround with a moulded cornice above. A central panelled door has a traceried fanlight over it, with arched reveals, imposts, and a keyblock to a pilastered surround topped with an open triangular pediment. The building was formerly known as the Railway Inn.
