LEWES Cliffe MALLING STREET (east side) Huntington Tomb 7 yards west of the Jireh Chapel

Tomb. Circa 1810 and continued in use for several decades after. Portland stone with ridged covering of panelled stone slabs, those to east uninscribed, those to west inscribed.

Inscriptions read:

First stone from north: Thomas Marchant, d. 1832.

Second stone from north: Mary Hooper, d. 1810. Thomas Hooper, d. 1832. Mary Hooper, d. 1833.

Third stone from north: Revd. Jenkin Jenkins, d. 1810.

Fourth stone from north: 'Here lies the coalheaver who departed this life, July 1st, 1813, in the 69th year of his age. Beloved of his God, but abhorred of men. The Omniscient Judge, at the grand assize, shall ratify and confirm this confusion of many thousands: for England and its metropolis shall know that there hath been a prophet among them. W.H.S.S.' (William Huntington Sinner Saved).
