Description

Malthouse Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries, with some alterations made around 1920. It features a timber frame with brick infill, primarily encased in brick, along with brick additions. The roof is covered with old plain tiles. The building has a three-bay timber frame, with a 17th-century brick and flint bay added to the left, and an additional bay added to the left in the 18th century, along with two bays added to the right end. In 1920, a south wing was added to the front of the left and center 16th-century bays, and a wing was added to the rear at the right end.

The front of the farmhouse is one and a half stories high, with seven irregular bays. The entrance is located in the third bay from the right, set within a porch that dates to around 1920, with an outshot to the left. To the right of the door, there is a 17th-century two-light leaded casement window and a 19th-century three-light casement window. The 20th-century wing features a bow window on the end. The left two bays contain 19th-century doors. Above the 17th-century bay, there are two 20th-century hipped two-light dormers. Above and to the right of the door, there are two 19th-century hipped three-light dormers. The roof has a steep pitch with a large ridge stack at the center of the timber-frame section and 19th-century stacks on the hips. The 20th-century wing has a small stack on the side wall.
