Description
Cowlow Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1860. It is constructed from rough-faced ashlar with rusticated ashlar quoins and dressings, topped with a pyramidal slate roof. The building has a square plan and stands two storeys tall.
The southeast front features windows with glazing bar sashes that have lintels designed to look like voussoirs. The ground floor windows have straight head moulds. There is a central panelled door with a fluted keystone, an oblong over-light, and a flat hood supported by console brackets.
The northeast front has irregular fenestration, with two ground floor windows—one on the left and one on the right—and one first floor window to the left of centre. These windows are also glazing bar sashes, with straight dripstones above the ground floor windows. The central doorway has a Tudor arch with a panelled door, sunken spandrels, and a straight dripstone.
Cowlow Farmhouse is a notable example of a substantial mid-19th century farmhouse.
