Description
Cowman's Cottage and the attached cowhouse east of Beechenhill Farmhouse is a former farmhouse and cowman's cottage with a lofted cowhouse, dating from the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings for the house and cowman's cottage, while the cowhouse features hammer-dressed ashlar dressings. It has a clay tile roof and a coursed and squared rubble ridge stack. The structure has an L-shaped plan, with the house and cowman's cottage on the west side and the cowhouse on the east, forming the main range.
The main range consists of the house and cowman's cottage, which occupy the left third of the structure. It is two storeys high with three windows; the left and centre windows are pivoted, while the right window has casements. The centre window on the ground floor has two lights with a central flat-faced mullion. The cowhouse on the right features three ground floor doors located to the left, right, and centre, along with a central loft door that has five ventilation slits on the left side and one on the right.
The east range includes a slightly lower lofted extension on the left with doors to the left and centre, and a small loft opening on the left. Adjoining to the right is a single-storey building with a large board door.
