Description
The gate piers, forecourt walls, and steps to Castern Hall were built around 1740. They feature rusticated ashlar piers and coursed rubble walls with ashlar quoins and coping. The square-section piers in the center have overhanging moulded caps topped with urns that have gadrooned bases and ball finials. The adjoining wall encloses a rectangular forecourt and is ramped down from the corners at the front to frame the view of the house. There is a flight of steps with a flanking wall to the right. The gates are made of cast iron and date from the 20th century. This structure is listed due to its historical association with Castern Hall.
