Description

The Church of St Paul is a parish church that was rebuilt around 1901 by W.R. Bryden of Buxton. It is constructed of coursed stone with a red tile roof and features verge parapets. The church includes a tower, nave, chancel, and attached transepts, all designed in a loosely early English style. The short tower, located to the west, has three stages and is supported by three-stage angle buttresses. It features trefoil-headed windows and a twin-light bell chamber with a pointed arch and a quatrefoil above, topped with a ramped parapet at the angles.

The nave consists of three bays, with two-stage buttresses between the bays and two-light trefoil-headed windows with pointed labels above. The chancel is lower than the nave and has attached lower transepts, circular windows with trefoil lights, and a five-light Geometric East window.

Inside, the church is accessed through the tower. The nave is aisleless, featuring an almost semi-circular chancel arch supported by corbelled imposts. The roof is arch-braced with a collar, a king post above, and twin purlins with cusped wind braces. The chancel roof is coffered and boarded. Notable interior features include a circular stone pulpit with high-relief carved fruit and a brattished top rail, a gabled reredos, and a blind-arcaded square 19th-century font. The church also contains stained glass in the East and central North windows.
