Description

Strines Inn is a public house located on Mortimer Road in Strines. It dates from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries and is constructed from coursed, squared gritstone with an ashlar wing on the left and stone slate roofs. The building has an elongated range consisting of three sections. The 17th-century part features two bays, with a two-bay wing on the left that is brought forward, and a single bay wing on the right that is set back.

The 17th-century section has a chamfered plinth, with a benchmark to the right. There are two five-light windows on each floor, all with double-chamfered surrounds, which have been heightened and lack stone mullions. A gabled porch is located to the right of the center, featuring a moulded ashlar surround to the doorway, a cornice, a shield of arms of the Worral family, and kneelers and copings. The ashlar stacks at the center and right have plain oversailing courses.

To the left, there is a low 18th-century two-bay ashlar wing with rusticated quoin pilasters, moulded stone architraves with wooden casements, a band at the first floor, and moulded coved eaves, along with a corniced ashlar stack to the left. On the right, a 19th-century addition includes a part-glazed door with a fan-light, a tripartite small-pane sash to the right, and a similar single sash above. The eaves have stone brackets, and there is a gable stack. At the rear of the 17th-century part, there is a three-light double-chamfered mullion window with a hood, although the mullions have been removed. A cast-iron benchmark is located on the roadside gable.
