Description
Sugworth Tower is a tower built in 1927 that incorporates materials from the 17th century Lower Holes Farmhouse, which was previously located half a mile to the northeast. The tower is constructed of rubblestone and is square in plan, featuring a taller stair tower at one corner. It has quoins and a doorway with a quoined surround and a shallow triangular head in the lintel. The stone mullioned windows have recessed mullions, with four lights on the first and second floors and three larger lights on the third floor. Rainwater spouts project from the base of the crenellated parapet. The stair tower, which is also crenellated, includes a small window, a doorway leading onto the tower roof, and a flagpole. This tower serves as a prominent landmark in the countryside and was built as part of a job-creation scheme.
