Description
Shaw Farmhouse, along with an attached byre and barn, dates from the mid-18th century. The building is constructed of coursed stone with dressed quoins and features a blue machine tile roof, complete with verge parapets on shaped kneelers and corniced ridge stacks. The field front is two storeys high and approximately 35 meters long, presenting three windows on the ground floor. These consist of two roughly central ranges of three-light block surround casements, with a block mullioned window to the lower right and a widely spaced top-hung casement to the right.
To the left is a later byre and hay loft, which is butt jointed to the farmhouse. This section includes a loft door at the far left, a boarded field door in the center, and two vents to the right and one to the left. The right-hand bay features stone steps leading up to the first floor on the gable end and is not connected internally to the main house. A massive lintel is present above the door leading to the house-place on the yard side.
