Description
Bethel Chapel is a non-conformist chapel dated 1801. It is constructed from rough faced coursed stone with ashlar quoins and surrounds, topped by a stone slate roof. The building has a single cell plan and features a two-storey, three-window gable frontage with a central entrance. This entrance is flanked by two windows, all of which have round arched, raised block surrounds, keystones, and imposts. The doorway is framed by a Gibbsian surround with low-relief carved panels on the double doors, and above the door is a painted inscription reading "BETHEL/J.L./1801." There is a blind oeil de beuf over the upper windows and a ball finial at the apex. The south side has two round-arched windows, while the east gable has three. Inside, there is an early 19th-century timber gallery with a concave break to the side on turned posts, late 19th-century pews, and a twin stair central stand or rostrum.
