Description

The Old Nag's Head is a public house located in Grindsbrook Booth, Edale, dating back to 1577 with early 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed from coursed rubble gritstone, featuring gritstone dressings and a stone slate roof with stone coped gables and moulded kneelers. It has a stone gable end stack and a stone ridge stack.

The south elevation is irregular, but the left part was made symmetrical in the early 20th century with a gabled stone and timber porch. Inside the porch, there is a 16th-century doorway with a bracketed hood. This doorway is flanked by full-height gabled bays that have pseudo timber framing. To the right of the porch, there is a doorway with a stone lintel and jambs, also featuring a bracketed stone hood. The lintel is dated 1577. Adjacent to this is a 19th-century window set within part of a 16th-century recessed and chamfered surround, and above it is a 3-light recessed and chamfered mullion window. Inside, the building has a fireplace with a massive bracketed stone lintel. The Old Nag's Head is listed for its group value only.
