Description
White Lodge is a lodge built in 1855, possibly designed by Paxton. It features sandstone ashlar, render, cast iron, and weatherboarding, topped with a lead roof that has decorative valancing. The building is single storey and has a T-plan layout with an ashlar plinth. The eastern section has a polygonal head and is rendered, containing three plain sash windows. The rear wing is weatherboarded and also has three similar sash windows along with a doorway. This wing is supported by groups of three cast iron columns, and the roof descends in a concave curve, adorned with decorative valancing at both the ridge and eaves. There is a ramped ashlar wall on one side and a gateway on the other, which consists of four square piers with moulded caps and ball finials, along with stick railings and gates. The lodge was constructed at the entrance from the Park to Barbrook House, which was Paxton's own residence. The Gardens and Park surrounding it are listed on the Gardens Register at Grade I.
