Description

PARISH OF CHATSWORTH CHATSWORTH PARK SK 27 SE 3/89 White Lodge II Lodge. 1855, possibly by Paxton. Sandstone ashlar, render, cast iron and weatherboarding. Lead roof with decorative valancing. Ashlar stack. Single storey, T-plan. Ashlar plinth. To the east is the polygonal head of the T, rendered and with three plain sashes. The rear wing is weatherboarded and has three similar sashes and a doorway, with groups of three cast iron columns supporting the roof which descends in a concave curve, with decorative valancing at the ridge and the eaves. Ramped ashlar wall to one side and gateway to the other, consisting of four square piers with moulded caps and ball finials, and stick railings and gates. The lodge was built at the entrance from the Park to Barbrook House, Paxton's own residence. The Gardens and Park are included on the Gardens Register at Grade I.
