Description
The steps, railings, and retaining walls to Mayfield Cottage and Westfield Cottage date from the late 18th century to early 19th century. They are constructed from limestone rubble with ashlar copings and steps, and feature wrought-iron railings. The steps lead up to the paired doorways of Mayfield Cottage and Westfield Cottage, with the flights separated by a simple handrail that has a scrolled end. The front garden retaining walls for each cottage are topped with spiked railings set between standards that have vase finials. These features contribute to the overall setting of Mayfield Cottage and Westfield Cottage.
