Description

The icehouse, located south of the fishponds and 400 metres north-north-east of Cowclose Farmhouse, dates from the early 19th century and was built for the Thornhill family of Stanton Hall. It is constructed of stone with a coursed square gritstone facade. The structure features a short tunnel, which has now collapsed at the top, leading into the hill. At the end of the tunnel, there is a large square underground chamber that has a barrel vault.
