Description

The outbuildings located approximately 8 metres east of Lowna Farmhouse are Grade II listed structures. They consist of two attached drying sheds, which are currently used for storage, byres, and loose boxes. The first shed was built in 1803 and was raised and adapted from an earlier 18th-century building, while the second shed dates to around 1840. These buildings were constructed for Thomas Baxter.

The outbuildings are made of squared limestone with tooled quoins, with the first shed raised in squared limestone and the second featuring red brick piers on the ground and first floors. Both sheds have pantile roofs with a brick stack. The first shed has a three-storey, three-window front, while the second shed to the left has a three-storey, five-bay front.

In the first shed, there are plank doors to the left and centre of the ground floor, alongside a small-pane window to the right. The first floor includes a plank lifting door to the right of centre, a square pitching window to the right, and a large three-light fixed window to the left. The second floor has four louvred openings for the drying loft, with scutched lintels over the ground and first floor openings. The right end features a stack.

The second shed contains three cart-sheds on the ground floor, two of which are now closed with board doors that have altered lintels. There is a board door to the left with a two-light, 12-pane horizontal sliding sash window to the end left, both of which have diagonally-tooled lintels. The first floor has a board lifting door flanked by two-light shuttered windows, also with similar lintels. The second floor drying loft features five louvred openings with tooled sills.
