Description

The Kennels is a hunt kennel that has been converted into a house, built in 1806 as indicated by the datestone, with a late 19th-century extension and 20th-century remodelling. It was originally constructed for the Osbaldeston family. The building features dressed sandstone with tooled quoins and dressings, and a pantile roof that includes an ashlar stack and a rendered brick stack.

The structure is two stories high with a five-bay front, where the central bay is gabled and projects outward. There is a 20th-century single-storey lean-to extension on the right side. The central bay has a part-glazed door set within a door-case that has a corbelled pediment hood. To the right of the door, there is a 16-pane sash window, and above it, a glazed oculus in a raised surround. The gable apex features a datestone with a crest. To the left, there is a second 20th-century door in the original opening.

The ground-floor openings on the left and right have been altered, and those on the right are obscured by the lean-to extension, though tripartite keyed lintels suggest their original positions. All windows are 16-pane sashes with painted stone sills. The first-floor windows are set in plain keyed surrounds with recessed panels beneath. The building has a cavetto-moulded eaves course and features end stacks, as well as left and right stacks, on the hipped roof.
