Description

Larch Tree Cottage is an old police house that has been converted into a residential home. It dates from the late 18th century and was altered and extended in 1897, as indicated by a datestone, with further modifications made in the 20th century. The building features dressed sandstone, which includes reused herringbone-tooled sandstone on the front and right side, while the rear is constructed from coursed rubble sandstone. It has a pantile roof and a brick chimney.

The cottage is two stories tall with a two-window front and has a single-storey, three-bay cell block extension to the left. The main front has a renewed board door to the right set in a chamfered opening. The windows are 20th-century top-opening lights, with the ground floor left window featuring a chamfered lintel. To the right of the door, there is a stone inscribed with "VR DJ 1897 JK." The gables are coped, and there is a stack to the left of the center.

In the cell block extension, there is a renewed board door to the right of two small-pane casement windows. All openings have plain stone lintels, and there is a coped gable on the left with an end stack. At the rear of the cell block extension, there are three small blocked cell windows with flat surrounds. On the right side, there is a six-pane fixed-light window in a chamfered opening with a roughly herringbone-tooled lintel.

Inside the cell block, there are three cells that still have their original nail-studded doors and iron-barred inspection windows. The building is included in the heritage listing for its historical interest.
